It's very true to say that sometimes you learn more from a hard fought draw than a big win, that we are used to here at Burn, and we certainly have our work to do studying the multiple variables our ever increasing squad is throwing up. We had the pleasure of Toby and Archie on our squad today, while Seb was down in that there London learning nothing watching England. They bolstered a squad of 15 U12s who included just 2 relative newbies in Josh and Joe (not Arthur) so the squad looked good for a cracking game.
Bury took the honours at theirs last time out, with a well organised side. They started off really well and at the end of the first quarter had us on the rack with 2 tries on the board to our 0. Tom woke up big style in the 2nd quarter and showed his heels to bring us back into it, while the 3rd quarter saw Theo and Tom make a massive impact, and we led by 2 going into the final set. Tom, Jacob, Theo, and Michael all sat out the final session, and Bury were able to claw back the deficit in the last play to make it a very satisfactory 5-5 draw.
Special mention today to Josh, who captained us today, and played a solid 30 mins as prop/hooker. He is a quick learner and his keeness to play and train are duly noted. While Josh and all our new players "bed in", which can only happen with gametime, thanks to all the lads who have been with us since 6yr olds for their patience and dedication, it is noted even more!
Rochdale away next Sunday, which should be another cracking day out, weather permitting.
Rumour has it that Leigh have pulled out of the competition we played them in a few weeks ago, we shall wait and see how that sets us up for the next round!
