Good game, even better attitude!

A bitterly cold and damp day at Ramsgreave didn't stop the U12 lads turning up in great numbers, with 8 lads having to endure the cold even more as they watched their comrades start the day with a terrific display of handling and space invasion, Johnny and Tom F showing no mercy while Sedge were at 6s and 7s. The Tigers have one very effective weapon, a lad a good head and shoulders taller than our biggest, with an adam's apple and 6 o'clock shadow to boot! Their first try came from their hooker who sneaked through our fantastic defence, just making the line. Jacob set things straight again, popping and spinning through the Sedgley lads. With the last play of the first 10, the Tigers seemed to remember they had a weapon and passed him the ball for perhaps the first time, he duly obliged with the first of his 7 tries, despite the best efforts of Theo and pretty much everyone else to keep him under wraps. The next 10 mins saw the game even out, with Theo getting a great try after a strong run, while Jacob grabbed a second having ripped the ball from the opposition. Big Tiger got 2 as well, bookending the section and leaving us just ahead at half time.
Our next 10 saw our less experienced boys take to the field, including Matthew on his first ever outing, which left us a little exposed in defence and Sedge took good advantage. Having said that the Unit only managed 3 and hopes were raised as he went down at one point with a David Hay type ankle issue, but sadly twas but a twinge. Sedgley were now 2 tries up on us as we went into the last 10 and we brought back Theo and Jacob to counter the threat, but things started badly as we were soon 3 behind. Sedge kicked to us and we worked hard to set up good position, Theo eventually dotting down, Burn just 2 behind again but only 2 minutes to go. Sedge asked to receive which we duly obliged, and the ensuing knock on gave us the chance to strike again, this time Jacob getting his hat trick and putting everything in the balance. Tigers decided to kick this time, but the poor lads effort never got out of the mud, and Burn were quick to take the option of the scrum at half way. With the last drive and play of the game, Toby pushed through and drove low to make the game even, much to the relief and joy of the crowd, and the dismay of the Tigers!

All in all, the game received the result it deserved, with more than 80% of it being made up of great running, strong rugby union, despite conditions underfoot and weatherwise being downright nasty. Proud of every one of the lads, our reputation for sportsmanship and good play is a credit to everyone of you and your parents as well.
