It was a confident Blackburn U9’s team which took to the pitch following the style of their 7 : 1 victory against LSH B. LSH A included several changes however to the previous squad. Blackburn would be playing back to back games.

It was Blackburn who were again first to score soon after the start of the game. From a loose ball in midfield Donovan released Sam who found Ben travelling at speed to go in at the corner unopposed. Whilst this settled the Blackburn team the following plays confirmed that LSH were playing with renewed intensity and it was well deserved when they drew level from a break in midfield.

The game now took on an ebb and flow as attacks by both teams were repelled with equally good defence. A good break by Cameron saw him make to within inches of the line only to be prevented from scoring by a last ditch tackle. The score at half time 1 : 1.

Soon after the restart George was able to turnover the ball and feed Zach who went on another strong run. Again however the covering LSH defence was excellent. Good pressure by Blackburn and clever plays by Donovan and Sam put the Blackburn team close to the LSH line. It appeared that Blackburn would eventually break through although against the run of play it was LSH who were next to score. Some poor defence allowed the LSH attack to make ground down the wing and despite covering defence from Henry the try was scored.

If Blackburn were going to avoid defeat they would now need to show real character and to put into practice everything they had learnt in training over the past few weeks. LSH however were now playing with much more belief running and tackling with more purpose. The Blackburn boys however dug in and put in some punishing tackles of their own. It was Blackburn who eventually broke the stalemate. A mazy run by Donovan and good retention of the ball eventually allowed Zach to power his way to the corner. It was Zach on hand again who rounded off an excellent passing move. George won the ball in midfield before feeding Sam. The ball passed through several pairs of hands before Zach was eventually able to burst through a tiring LSH defence. 3 : 2.

With the game now looking safe a good run by Henry made ground before Zach eventually rounded off the game with the final try. The score 4 : 2 to Blackburn.

This was another convincing display by Blackburn U9's against a well organised LSH team. In patches the standard of play was excellent with some flowing rugby and excellent teamwork. Coupled with some punishing defence Blackburn came out worthy winners.
