Be proud, be very (a)proud of your local lads and lass.

After last years calming of the Cumbrians our mission this year was to yoke the Yorkies.

Mission one: to Ilkley, where the ducks play rugby football, and their wonderful new ground, matched only by their splendid hospitality. But before we could avail of their meatballs and pasta, we had to make mincemeat of their defences and tag them into submission. We duly did, our two teams coming away with a combined result of two wins, a draw and a near miss against a very nice little side indeedie.

From their we flew to York YHA, freshly refurbished and only opened a week. Yours truly was a bit nervous, given our performance last year at Windermere, drinking a well stocked bar quite dry, and also given a tour some 8 years ago with another u8 side which got us barred!! They had fortunately forgotten that, phew and to be fair, our parent group were very well behaved while the kids were excellent. By way of an aside, a quick walk along the river bank took us up to York RUFC, another stunning clubhouse with wonderful facilities, where do these yorkies get their fabulous facilities from.

Day two, and after a stonking breakkie, a change of plan and venue due to an oversite by West Park, Bradford. Mission two: Driffield or bust, but no ordinary triangular mickey mouse game for our intrepid gang - only a great big flippin festival with all the great and good of Yorkshire on site to behold. It was York RUFC who put us up to it and yet again, the goodwill and kindness shown to us by your easterly neighbours was outstanding. I find it hard to believe that if any club called the day before to our local big tourneys "we have been let down, can you squeeze us in" would have been met with such a welcome. Driffied was yet another wonderful clubhouse!! (please bear in mind we were supposed to be at West Park, one of the best clubhouses I have ever seen and you get my drift about Yorks having facilities bob on) Only matched by the warmest welcome. And what did we do to thank them..

Only went and gave them quite a decent thumping! Played 10 Won7 drew 1 lost 2...... I thank you. They gave us medals thanked us for coming and invited us back next year. We were chuffed to bits
