Scarborough had a large crowd supporting them for this Intermediate cup tie and 2 tries in each half from the home side put pay to Burns challenge. Burn did have chances in the first half, the best was while the scores were even and they pushed Scarborough off their own scrum just 5 metres from the try line, but the referee penalised Burn. However, Scarborough had most of the possession and territory, this lead to a converted try on 24 minutes and another one on the stroke of half time, which was a real killer blow. In the second half Leon Fifield charged down a clearance kick, he chased the ball, but it just went dead before he could touch it down, this was really as good as it got for Burn, who were not sticking to the game plan, they were making bad decisions and anything they tried was poorly executed, it was not a good day at the office! This was while the home side continued to keep the pressure on, resulting in scoring a try on 55 minutes and a fourth in the dying minutes.
Burn failed to play even close to how they are capable, while Scarborough admitted they played the best they had all season, this combination meant there was only going to be one winner and Scarborough thoroughly deserved to progress to the semi-final. We thank them for their hospitality and wish them well and hope they can go all the way and win at Twickenham.
We would like to thank those supporters who made the long trip over to Scarborough, the players appreciate the support and were disappointed they didn’t put in the performance.
Next week the league schedule is back and Burn face a tough away trip to Upper Eden when they will need to refocus and look to ensure they don’t slip up in the championship race.
