This was the third game in a row that Burn gave up a comfortable lead. This week they led 22-3 at one point, however that was as good as it got for Burn as Leigh began to chip away at the lead and by the end the only thing Burn were left with was a losing bonus point.
Burn streaked into an early lead with two tries from Leon Fifield after 2 similar moves along the backs. Fifield also managed to convert both tries. Leigh narrowed the gap slightly from a penalty kick, however almost immediately Burn responded with a penalty of their own from Fifield. Burn’s third try came from a Leigh mistake, they tried to run out of their own 22, a pass went to ground, Cameron Boulter reacted the quickest , he managed to hack the ball on and won the foot race to fall on the ball as it crossed the try line. After this Leigh gathered themselves and began to eat in to Burn’s lead with a try and conversion before the end of the half, making the score 22-10 at the break.
Leigh began the second half as they finished the first with putting the pressure on Burn. They were rewarded with a try on 47 minutes. Then a Leigh penalty Kick narrowed Burn’s lead more. A try and conversion completed their comeback and took them into the lead. In the closing minutes Burn finally managed to wake up and pushed hard for the win, they did manage to cross the try line with the final move of the game, but the final pass was forward and the game ended with Leigh hanging on to win 25-22.
Burn need to get out of the bad habit of playing half a game. This loss really drags Burn into the relegation dog fight. They have games in hand, but they are tough games. Burn will hope to snap out of their bad run next week, however it will not be easy as they travel away to Vale of Lune.
