Given the recent inclement weather the conditions underfoot at Tarleton were close to perfect, however the wicked cross field wind would be a challenge for both teams.
5 minutes into the game saw Burns first try after some dominant forward play and good hands in the backs seeing Dom a hogan go over in the corner. The conversion was missed after the wind cruelly turned the ball on the tee as Sam Morgan went to kick it.
from the kick off Burn worked their way back into the Tarleton 22 where Burn knocked on. The resulting Tarleton scrum was turned over and Jordan Pearson showed good strength to score, only to be adjudged to be held up. From the restart the ball found its way back to Jordan Pearson who made no mistake this time. sam Morgan added the extras.
On 20 minutes a Tarleton scrum was again turned over and Anton Garcia ran a line that cut through the Tarleton defence scoring in the corner. The extras were duly added by Sam Morgan.
Burns third try came on 35 minutes when Leon Fifield muscled his way over the line. Sam Morgan kicked the conversion which looked to be missing only for it to be picked up by the wind, turn a right angle to sail through the posts.
At half time burn were well in control and winning 0-26 and the bonus point in the bag.
The second half started much the same and on 48 minutes Leon Fifield looked to have missed an easy overlap and turned into heavy Tarleton traffic, only to burst through and score under the posts. Sam Morgan converted the extras.
Tarleton then rallied and showed played some spirited rugby, but unfortunately for them Burns defence held strong and worked Tarleton back into their own 22. Jordan Pearson again burst through to score under the posts. The resulting conversion looked to be simple but it rebounded off the crossbar.
On 65 minutes Matt Hugges picked the ball up on his wing cutting inside to score under the posts - this time Sam Morgan avoided the uprights to add the conversion.
Again Tarleton rallied and drove Burn into their own 22. It looked like they were going to get on the score sheet but a penalty was passed to no-one and burn gathered up the ball, worked their way up the pitch and Jordan Pearson scored his third of the afternoon before the final whistle. Sam Morgan added the extras.
The final score 0-52.
Tarleton were better than the score showed, and made things hard for Burn, but the visitors were just too strong for them.
In the club house afterwards the news came through that Leigh had narrowly beaten De La Salle and missed the bonus point meaning Burn and Leigh wre drawn on points. Some confusion followed as to who would end the day on top spot, but it was later confirmed that first place goes to Leigh with the most games won.
Head Coach Dino Radice said "it was a good game and Burn played some clinical rugby and managed the conditions well. It was a good team performance but some areas to work on befor next weeks game"
