A 33-10 win away at Aldwinians saw Burn keep on track for the league title.

Four tries saw Burn pick up a bonus point, this may have been enough to secure the title before the last week, however Leigh had a convincing away at St. Benedict’s to remain in the hunt.

Burn started the game with a strong wind behind them and this helped them start the better. On 3 minutes Sam Morgan kicked a penalty, although it was his second attempt, he did miss the first attempt, but the referee was not ready for the kick so he allowed a retake!
However, on 8 minutes Aldwinians hit back with a try. Penalties became a bit of a theme for the game and this time Aldwinians had the benefit of one, they kicked to the corner, won the line out and rumbled over to score. The conversion was missed. The 11th minute saw another penalty, this time Sam Morgan add 3 points to Burn’s score. Burn had their first try on 18 minutes, from a scrum 5 metres from the Aldwinians line Burn got a push on before Mark Briggs released to Craig Aikman, he drew the last man and passed to Matt Hughes who had an easy touch down in the corner. Sam Morgan was unable to convert. After this Aldwinians began to have more possession and territory, but without breaching the Burn defence. On 28 minutes there was the first of several yellow cards, this first one going to Sam Parkinson. , then not long after an Aldwinians prop was sent to the bin as well. Just before the break Burn were awarded a penalty try, at first Aldwinians had the put in to a scrum just 5 metres from their own line, Burn drove them back and as a last resort Aldwinians touched down over their own line, as a result Burn were awarded the put in to a reset scrum. Burn again got a good push on and with the home side going backwards they infringed and the referee adjudged they denied Burn a try. Sam Morgan kicked the conversion and this gave Burn a half time lead of 18 points to 5.

Sam Morgan added another 3 points from a penalty kick after 7 minutes of the second half. Burn stretched their lead on 50 minutes, from a scrum on the half way, the ball was popped to Craig Aikman, he feed Sean Hall whose pace took him through a gap, he drew the last defender before passing to Matt Hughes who ran on to score . The conversion was missed, but Burn now lead 26 to 5. 54 minutes saw another Aldwinians prop sent to the bin, he was followed by Craig Aikman 5 minutes later. The Aldwinians prop was not long back on until he was shown another yellow card resulting in a red. By this time scrum had become uncontested and this along with continuing penalties really wasted the game. Aldwinians did score to close the gap on 71 minutes, but then they had another man sent to the bin. Burn secured the bonus point with the last play of the game after Craig Aikman made a darting run from a 5 metre scrum and he just had enough to squeeze over. Sam Morgan converted to make the final score 33-10.

Burn would have hoped they would not need to go into the final week with the championship undecided, but a surprisingly comfortable win for Leigh away at Bennies means Burn now face a challenging trip to Wigan with the title still at stake, so the players would appreciate as much support as possible.
