It is always exciting when the team you support put points on the board.

This match did not disappoint, the supporters were enthralled as Burn 2 scored try after try.

Both teams came out on to the pitch with the intention of winning, this was obvious from the determined play from both sides.
After several phases Ben Fox tapped the ball from a line out which was taken up by Adam Todd. He was supported to go over in the right corner for the first unconverted try. 5-0

At this stage both Burn and Aldwinians appeared equally matched with neither team gaining a clear advantage, however, Burn showed their prowess in the scrums gaining yardage with each shove.
Ben Fox won the line out at 5 metres taking the ball into a maul. Burn’s powerhouse forwards walked the maul over the line only to be held up.

The next phase of play took Burn to a scrum. Joshua Reilly picked up and passed the ball out to Zac Child who kicked the ball over the scrum which was quickly followed up and retrieved by Jamie Cairns who offloaded to James Cathcart. To escape being taken down he flicked the ball back to Zac Child who passed to Austin Clarke, taking up the challenge he went over for a converted try.
Lewis Bromley showed his ability to use his power and speed with a run down the pitch followed by an accurate pass to Cameron Boulter who filtered to Joshua Reilly earning Burn another 7 points.

Burn’s defence and solid passing continued to foil Aidwinians and allowed Cameron Boulter to slam down for another 5 point, the try then being converted to bring the score to 24 – 0. Burn continued with the upper hand, well worked passing allowing Adam Wrigley to add another try to the score. The pitch was bathed in autumnal sunlight which contributed to the conversion evading the kicker.
The next plays saw Aldwinians become desperate to put a score on the board they made the decision to go for a penalty kick making the half time score 29 -3.

Aldwinians started the second half hungry for the win but Burns forwards over powered them enabling Burn to turn the scrum regaining the advantage. A couple of passes out saw Ben Renton pick up and speed for the line bringing the score to 36-3.

Whether well practiced or by fluke there were some excellent flicks of the ball, one being from Cameron Boulter who running at speed flicked the ball 10 metres backwards for James Halliwell to take, unfortunately, it did not result in a change of score. Aldwinians had little handling of the ball, when they did in the next play Adam Wrigley stole it on the run making an interception to move the score to 43 -3. The game continued with Burn dominating play the next scrum walking towards the line. After a couple of passes Austin Clarke received the ball, with head down he powered into the opposition to somersault their No 8 over his back.

Burn were awarded a penalty scrum at 5 metres out. Adam Todd picked up again to take the ball over Aldwinian’s try line the resulting score 55-3. The pressure maintained by Burn’s crisp passing allowing Zac Child to score under the sticks and converting his own try. 62 -3.

Lewis Bromley proved that he had not lost his touch since moving to the second row. After taking up a pass at 75 metres out there was no way that Aldwinian’s defence was going to stop him, and they didn’t. The impressive run added yet more point to Burn’s scoreboard. 69-3.

It appeared that no matter what Burn did they would continue to put the numbers on the board. Ben Fox scored one of the final 2 tries and Zac Child proved that he can kick and convert from the touch line all adding to a final score of 83 -3.
Aldwinians fought hard to stay in the game playing for the full 80 mins but the points evaded them.

At a post match interview with Mark Bullen he commented that “Although there was some impressive interplay, next week more team structure would be needed to keep us at the top of the league”.
