I’d like to say that the weather hampered Blackburn 2 performance but it would be an excuse.
Both teams took to the pitch braving the elements with what felt like gale force winds. The first 5 minutes of play saw Burn give away 5 penalties. Both teams battled hard but play remained in Burns half. Burn were overpowered in the scrums several of which Rossendale walked to gain valuable yardage. Rossendale scored a converted try on 27 minutes.
Burn came out all fired up in the second half with some hard hitting tackles but the relentless defence of the Rossendale squad thwarted Burns attempts to reach the try line. Rossendale scored a converted try on 55 minutes followed by a try on 60 minutes. 19- 0. Burn continued to battle even though the weather had turned to hail and snow.
At 67 minutes Joshua Reilly ran blind side from a half way scrum and fed the ball to Steve McNamara who successfully went over after a 30 yard sprint; the conversion was narrowly missed as it hit the post being kicked into artic conditions.
Rossendale capped their win with a final unconverted try on the final whistle.
