Burn were given an opportunity to redeem their last performance against Lymm 2. Anticipation was high as the match got underway.
It didn’t take long for Lymm to put the first score on the board with an unconverted try. The battle was fierce and appeared equally matched. Some excellent defence by Burn held off the visitors. On 22mins Burn’s Dan Basquil stampeded through Lymm’s defence to go over for the try, converted by Zac Child. 7-5. It wasn’t long before Burn were looking for the next score but the slippery hands of James Cathcart saw the ball dropped inches in front of the line. 33 minutes into the battle Joshua Reilly picked the ball up from the back of a scrum and stormed through, side stepping Lymm’s fullback to take the next converted try. 14-5. After several well worked phases and a long kick into touch brought Burn into Lymm’s 22. A good take in the line out by Ben Fox saw the ball being passed out to Joe Lord who bamboozled Lymm’s defence to score the third try for Burn, not converted. Half Time blown. 19 -5
Lymm came back in the second half all fired up after obviously underestimating Burn’s power house forwards and attacking backs. Lymm replicated the first 5 minutes of the game with a converted try.
