KCL win clean-sweep; 5s promotion hopes crushed

We finished, what was an excellent season, with wins for the 1s,2s,3s but none of the KRCL teams could post a win.

The 1s visited relegated Bromley CC and came away with 18 points to finish their league programme in a creditable 6th place. With 3 matches still to play in the KPL we may slip to 7th but that does not undermine a great season for a new team. Mahi Mahfazul hit 63 in a score of 248/8 which was too many for Bromley CC once Tanweer Sikandar got his rhythm. He finished with 5/15 from 9 overs.

The 2s were made to work hard by Bexleyheath CC but finished the season unbeaten. Our aim was promotion and this was achieved in style. Rez Karim made an unbeaten century (105*) as we posted 233/7. Bexleyheath fell 15 runs short.

The 3s were also hoping to challenge for the title and they achieved this goal despite some bad luck with the weather. Vic Kandampully hit 60 not out and Will Hazlehurst 47 which broke the back of Chestfield CC innings of 164 all out in an 8 wicket win.

The 4s ended the season with a comprehensive 10 wicket defeat at Old Roan CC. At least the journey home was a short one.

The 5s agonisingly lost to Bexley Park CC. A win, with other results going favourably, might have left the door open to promotion but it was not to be. Stuart Shanks hit his second century (114*) of the season as we set the opposition 212 to win, which they achieved with 4 overs and 4 wickets to spare.

The 6s enjoyed their dead rubber with Orpington CC in a match that potentially marks the end of Alan Bosworth's playing career with the club. Bozzer managed a farewell wicket but Orpington were able to surpass our score of 115 for the loss of only 4 wickets.

On Sunday, the U21 enjoyed a thrilling tie with Bexleyheath CC. Set 216 to win, Bexleyheath CC were flying at 159/0 but a collapse left them needing 2 from the last ball. A bye was run for the tie. Earlier Rishi Roy-Mukherjee (86) had shared 131 for the 1st wicket with Ishkaar Ujoodia (52).
