Week 18 Results Round-up

Richard Ward8 Sep 2025 - 17:09

1s Win to Stay Up; 2s Safe; 6s Win League

After a long season it all boiled down to Saturday to decide the fate of the 1s, 2s and 6s as well as the 4s who did not have a game.

The 1s completed the survival assignment beating Hayes CC by 44 runs at HQ. Losing the toss and being put in resulted in two early wickets and things got even worse when Gus McKenzie showed why he chose cricket over football when we he was dismissed kicking the ball onto his stumps to leave the 1s 24/3. However, a grafting 48* from Matt Golding and some crucial support from the lower order, including 18 from Shivang Katuwal, helped the score to 160/9.

Hayes made a solid start reaching 50/1 but the wickets soon began to tumble - Jahid Ahmed took three poles and Jas Bassan (4/20) ran through the batting to dismiss the visitors for 125.

It was then a waiting game for other results and both Minster CC and Sandwich Town CC duly lost. Minster were saved from the drop by a late wicket which sent the seasiders down.

In the divisional batting George Wells (633 runs) finished third just ahead of Matt Golding with 614.

The 2s travelled to Bexleyheath CC dependent on other results unless they achieved a win or maximum losing points. Batting first, Mahi Mahfazul (52) got into his stride but found little support until the tail wagged. James Yandell (34), Rez Karim (23), Lucas Brown (16) and Alex Bush (21) all made good runs to lift the 2s to 198 all out.

Bexleyheath chased the total for the loss of 4 wickets but the result did not matter as Catford & Cyphers CC lost, which relegated them.

In the divisional batting Joel Ewan (546 runs) finished ninth.

The 3s brought up a consolation win with a good win over Catford & Cyphers CC at the Academy. Alex Jorgensen 45 and Assam Chaudhary 52* helped the 3s to 5 wicket win after Sharan Gupta (4/20) had led the bowling to leave Catford all out for 168.

In the divisional batting newcomer Assam Chaudhary (449 runs) finished fourth.

The 5s lost a close game at Old Roan CC. Having been bowled out for 107, the 5s fought all the way and went down by two wickets to finish 6th in the table. Details are not yet on play-cricket.

In the divisional bowling Haider Rasool (33 wickets) finished 3rd.

The 6s celebrated back-to-back promotions in winning the Division 12 (Underwood) title. Chris Harris's team needed 8 points to seal the honours and they managed that despite defeat at home to Old Elthamians CC. Derek Loveday took 4/22 as OE were all out for 182. Brent Thomson 55 and Alun John 23 were the main sources of runs but the once the magic number of points was reached, the innings fell away and the 6s retired to the bar.

In the divisional bowling Sinhal Patel (30 wickets) finished 1st.

The 7s couldn't find the points to haul themselves off the bottom of Division 14 (Underwood) as they lost to Old Wilsonians CC. After a delayed start, Blackheath batted but were soon losing wickets. Isaac Woods, in his last game for the club, hit 54 and he found good support in John Copeland (22), Ravi Fernando (23) and Paul Dillon (21) to take the score the 168/9. However, as in the previous match, the 7s could not defend the total, going down to a 5 wicket defeat.

In the divisional batting Richard Ward (374 runs) finished 1st.
