Arafat Bhuiyan was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-33 from his 9 overs. Figures that could have looked even better without two no balls that results in free hits which both sailed to the boundary. Two stunning catches from Speller and Birdi meant momentum was firmly with Blackheath and the latter bowled a spell beyond his years taking 1-33 from 9 overs. Despite being 50-5, a 100 from the Bexley number 5 got his team out of trouble, reaching 208 from 45 overs. A mention must also go to Chris Cahill who bowled metronomically to go for 19 runs from his 9 overs.
The response got off to a faltering start as both openers Rishi and Speller fell cheaply. Wells (33) and Ahmed (55) looked good, scoring quickly but when Wells was run out, Ahmed was unable to find the required support to take them game to the end. Wickets fell cheaply and the boys were unable to capitalise on a strong first half performance.
Lots of lessons to learn but plenty of positives. The first home fixture will provide a chance to put a full performance together next week.
