Strong win over Merit Table 4 side

The Black Horse selected Merit Table 4 side Weston to help blow away the Mince Pie cobwebs and were in for a tough test against a side second in the league. With a strong side out the Horse were quietly confident and started the game strongly. The first five minutes was spent in the Weston half and Isaac Aitken looked to have scored the first try of 2016 soon after only for it to be ruled out by referee Foggy, who is almost as blind as deaf. However it didn't take long for the try to come. A good kick in to the corner was taken over the try line by a Weston defender and from the resulting 5 scrum Rob Scrimshaw scored the first try of the day.

Weston were shocked and the Horse spent the next half an hour attacking the Weston try line. They scored two more tries in this time, one from Isaac Aitken and another for Rob Scrimshaw. With a 17-0 lead it was looking to be a strong half for the Horse until a serious injury to a Weston player held the game up for almost ten minutes. When the game restarted on another pitch Weston scored straight from the line up to make the score 17-5 at half time.

This try gave Weston some momentum after half time and they continued to press in the second half. It didn't take long for them to score their second try of the game and Weston looked like they were getting back in to the game. The Horse rallied and the following half an hour saw 3 tries, all excellently worked by the backs. First, Isaac Aitken received the ball out wide and broke through two men to get this second try of the game. Secondly, the ball made its way out to the other wing and a great pass from Gregor Noblett allowed Tony Bolger to stumble his way over the try line following a couple of dummies and a side step.

The third of these second half tries was arguably the best. From the kick off Chris Ellmore collected the ball and in the next couple of minutes nearly every Horse player on the pitch touched the ball. It eventually moved through the backs and Rob Scrmshaw took the glory, scoring his third try of the game and a sixth try for the Horse. The final score ended 36-10 to the Horse, which was well deserved following an excellent all round performance.

A great win for the Black Horse to kick 2016 off with a bang and good preparation for a tough game at home to Finsbury Park this week
