Great victory to avenge last seasons cup defeat

Following last weeks cup exit the Horse had an opportunity to reach the Plate final by beating Southgate. With the game taking place at Cheshunt on the boggy, slopey pitch, it was always going to be an interesting, tactical encounter. Southgate decided to go downhill first and it looked like this tactic would pay off when they got the first try of the game after 5 minutes. However this try sprung the Horse in to life and they scored 17 unanswered points in 15 minutes to take the game in to their own hands. First, a scrum 5m out was pushed up hill all the way over the line for Chris Arberry to put the ball down at number 8. Almost immediately from the kick off the Horse scored again. The ball was spread out to the left side and some great hands saw Michael Breeze finish off a fantastic move. Isaac Aitken then scored a penalty to put the Horse in a commanding position, 17-5 up. Southgate did pull a try back before half time but the Horse went in to the break 17-10 up, when in theory the pitch should have given Southgate a lead.
The first twenty minutes of the second half was spent largely in the Southgate half but the horse struggled to finish off any good moves. Eventually they did get a third try, Rob Scrimshaw picking the ball up quickly from a ruck and scurrying over the line. The Horse looked like going on and scoring a couple more until Scott Francis found himself yellow carded for blatant foul ply. This gave Southgate some impetus but during the "fifteen minute or so" sin bin they couldn't get a try. They did eventually score with the Horse back to 15 and with a couple of minute left they were only 7 points behind.
The horse retrieved the ball from kick off however and managed to get another try before the final whistle. A great break from Isaac Aitken was broken by the Southgate 10, who cowardly dumped him on his head in the process and sparked a melee between both players. Whilst this was going on Neil McDaid took full advantage to score the final try of the game. The 10 was yellow carded before the conversion and with Isaac Aitken off the pitch Michael Breeze took full advantage, sweetly striking the conversion to win the game for the horse 31-17. A great victory for the Horse who now face Belsize Park in next weeks plate final.

MOM - Michael Breeze - What can't this man do? Passing, Tackling, Intercepting, Turning Over, Try Scoring, Kicking, Converting. Brilliant
WOM - Scott Francis - Deaf, dumb and blind boy sure doesn't play a mean game of rugby
