Blackpool's search for their first win of the season continued as they lost out to Chorley in a league and cup double header. The hosts made a number of changes to the side that had travelled to take on Preston Grasshoppers the previous week with players returning from injury and other commitments.

In appalling weather conditions, both sides struggled to hang onto the ball and as a result the game was disjointed to say the least. It was Chorley who adapted to the conditions quicker as a silly infringement from the hosts gifted them a penalty which they duly dispatched for a 3- 0 lead. Blackpool hit back with an almost immediate response as a thunderous tackle close to the visitors tryline forced the ball free and Brady Barcock was quickest to react as he dived in under the sticks with Chris Finch adding the conversion.

Regrettably this was as good as it got for the home side as they found themselves pinned back in their own half and this dominance soon reaped rewards for the visitors as they crossed for three tries to take a commanding 22 – 7 lead into the half time interval.

The home side started the second period with a renewed vigour and strong scrummaging saw the pack drive their opponents backwards thus allowing Barcock to peel away from the base to power over in the corner for his second try of the afternoon. Finch then added a superb touchline conversion to cut the deficit between the sides to only eight points.

In the territorial downpour any ideas about free flowing rugby disappeared as the game settled into a war of attrition. With less than a quarter of the match to play Blackpool looked to chance their arm as they tried to launch an attack from deep, but the pass was cruelly snapped up by Chorley who raced in for a converted try before adding a penalty minutes later to stretch the lead further. As the clock counted down there was still time for one last score as a lofted cross field kick from the visitors bounced favourably back into their hands allowing the centre to cross for a try with the extras added for a final scoreline of 39 – 14.
