Joe is a product of the Blackpool Youth set-up, and after his debut for the club in 2006, it wasn’t long before he began captaining the junior side. Due to the success, Joe kept the captaincy all the way through from U11s to U16s.
Joe looks back at his time spent with the Juniors and states that his “most memorable moment was when they beat Fleetwood and Garstang in a 3-way tournament, having only been together for a month and never played a full-contact game.”
Joe’s efforts definitely haven’t gone unnoticed throughout his time at the club, and he rightfully won “Most Improved Player” for the 2010-2011 season, as well as being named “Junior Clubman” for the 2013-2014 season.
Shortly after this, Joe wanted to pass on his knowledge of the game to likeminded minis and junior players in the club and turned his hand to coaching in 2014. This started with the younger tag teams, before moving up and joining his late father and club legend Ian Dodd to help with the under 11s.
Alongside playing for Blackpool RUFC, Joe represented Blackpool Sixth Form, which boasted a very successful team, notably the 2015-16 year which saw the College winning the league.
Not satisfied with player-coach, Joe began refereeing in 2015, and he continues to help out wherever necessary.
Joe’s rugby career took a minor blip and at the beginning of the 2016 season, he left the club and joined local rivals, Fleetwood. However, it wasn’t long before Joe was back ‘home,’ returning towards the end of the very same season.
