Malcolm, otherwise known as “Maly the Martini Kid”, has joined Blackpool RUFC during preseason for the upcoming 2019/20 season. Maly began playing rugby, like most others, in PE at school, with Fleetwood High. Whilst he’s never officially played for a club before, he does boast a high level of fitness and strength that is catching the eye of Blackpool RUFCs coaches.
Maly gets this from his 12 years of boxing experience, both as a Professional and Unlicensed boxer. Throughout his boxing career, Maly has had 255 fights and has won around half of them! He lists the highlights of his boxing career as “winning the UKBA Middleweight title, closely followed by glory in the Super Middleweight division.”
Maly has also transferred his boxing experience into the world of MMA and has competed in a total of 19 professional MMA fights. Since retiring from Professional boxing and MMA, Maly took up Bare Knuckle Boxing and was a huge hit with the fans. He still takes part in unlicensed events, the latest being Beach Brawl 2019 in the Grand Hotel, Blackpool.
Ahead of the 2019-20 season, the club is hopeful that Maly can transfer the skills mastered from MMA and Boxing into the world of rugby. He has already shown great strength, power, stamina and agility in preseason and he continues to impress his coaches and teammates alike. With these innate characteristics, it suggests that Maly will do a job in either the Second Row or Back Row positions. Watch this space!
