This weekend Blackstones played host to second place Hinckley AFC at the Torney Stadium in this final game of the 2021/22 season.
Stones last faced Hinckley on 30-October 2021 and were treated to an eight-nil thrashing, hope were high that this score line would not be repeated. Twelve minutes into the match and that score line could not be repeated when Edmundson turned in a cross from Waumsley to take the lead. Despite the hick up, Hinckley began to show they class and began to tighten the grip on the game. Just before the half hour they equalised when their number 9 drove the ball just past Dalton’s fingertips then added two more to his tally in the next 9-minutes. Stones continued to mount attacks on the visitor’s goal and were rewarded just before half-time when Waumsley broke clear and slotted the ball wide of the keeper and into the bottom right of the net.
The second half kicked off with Stones throwing everything at the visitors, but as the half progressed the efforts of the first half, battling the disciplined defence and the strong easterly wind began to show in the legs. It still took though some inspired goal keeping from the replacement keeper to maintain the advantage and with 10-minutes to go Hinckley ended a passage of play in front of the Stones 18-yard box with a forth goal to effectively seal the 3 points.
