A Home win for the Rams

Match Report by Adam Moffat

Home Win

On Sunday Rams u13/14 hosted Kinross and pulled off a narrow win in great game.
Thanks to Kinross who helped with a couple of bodies after injuries hit the Blair squad. Those boys were a credit to their club.

Played over 3 period the Rams and got themselves out to an early lead with tries by Jock, Cameron and Arran. Each try came from great inter passing, support and offloading.

Playing some lovely rugby with powerful running and quick rucks Blair kept Kinross on the back foot.

Recent addition from Aberfeldy Angus made a huge positive impact playing 9 with the quick ball coming from rucks not allowing Kinross time to settle and allowing Oscar to dictate play.

We all know you only get quick ball if boys hit rucks and Fergus and Jock had really laid down a marker of what was to come.

Will and Lochy were making the hard yards up the middle working together and keeping Rams moving forward. Fergus showing tremendous work rate to hit ruck after ruck while making his hits in defence.

Hamish was next to cross for the Rams after a powerful brush through the middle. Centre partner Charles was terrorising the Kinross team with both ball in hand and defence with some shuddering hits.

Unfortunately for the second period the Rams lost captain Oscar and vice captain Will to injury.

With some rejigging and help from Kinross the Rams fronted up.

Arran stepping up into stand-off showed some great leadership and organisational skills. It was great to hear him bossing the team about.

Things became a but individually focused with some back and forth between both teams. Some good defence from Arran, Charles and Hamish kept the Rams in the game.

Angus made a break from half way rounding the Kinross cover and was unlucky to be hauled in just before the line.
Ryan could be heard all game geeing his team mates up and showed some lovely catch and pass skills to keep play moving.

Harris pulling the boys out of a hole by chasing back and covering some deep kicks by Kinross.

The Rams managed to hold onto their lead going into the last period.

Captain Oscar rejoined the play but unfortunately Angus had injured his ankle so missed out and Rams played with 12.

Oscar took no time to get back into the game carrying hard into Kinross and using Hamish and Charles, the Bash Brothers, outside him to get the team moving.

Off the back of this running Oscar managed to scamper over despite a valiant tap tackle.

Lochy made a massive carry into the Kinross half and was unlucky not to score. However after some good team work and passing the ball was spread wide for Arran to run in for the final score.

A great game by both sides with Blair just coming out on top. Great credit to Kinross for the way the game was played and the effort their players put in when helping Blair.

Everyone played well today but upfront Lochy carried brilliantly, Fergus never stopped working and gets better every game but
Jock gets top dog this week for really raising his game.

In the backs Charles & Hamish caused havoc and Arran scored 2 and saved 2 tries in defence but new recruit Angus lead the way with his quick ball from scrum half making the attack tick.

And player reviews....
1. Will - had a barnstorming first 20mins before a nasty blow to the cheek left him with a lump and a shiner. Was missed him for the rest of the game as key leader and ball carrier
2. Lochy - some great line breaks and logged some massive meters mate. Unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Defensively put himself about brilliantly
3. Fergus - continues to improve week on week and has become a key cog in the team. Selflessly hitting rucks, making tackles and support. Showed great work rate today.
4. Jock - really stepped up this week, got the first try of the game with great support play. Always there to hit rucks and contributed a few key turnovers but added some good ball carrying today.
5. Ryan - always there to big up his team mates and keep the energy up. Some really nice link play and passing this week and had a couple of shots at goal.
8. Cameron - we all know he can carry and boy does he carry. Has worked really hard on defence and it showed this week with some great low tackles and counter rucking.
9. Angus - our new addition for Aberfeldy slotted in at 9 brilliantly. Made an immediate impression with his speed at breakdown which kept Kinross on the back foot. One searing break and was unlucky to be stopped short.
10. Oscar - put in a captains shift in the first half, directing play and bringing others into the game helped massively by the quick service from Angus. Recovered from a shoulder knock to slot back in for the last period.
11. Series of Kinross boys who helped us out, all putting in a big shift
12. Charles - shifted out from the backrow but put is a massive shift, carried hard and hit even harder in defence. Showed softer skills with passing and offloading.
13. Hamish - Second half of a powerful centre combo, showed some good powerful running and nice footwork. Defence really stood out helping shut things down.
14. Harris - unlucky not to have been given the final pass a couple of times but never stopped working. Helped tidy up a few kicks through using his footwork to stay alive until support arrived.
15. Arran - really finding his feet as a fullback, offered great lines in attack and several try saving tackles. Leadership really stood out in second period as he filled in at 10 organising others and keeping the team moving.
