Saturday 23rd February saw Blairgowrie in action for the final time at home this season against Panmure. Panmure took the kick off and scored immediately, determined to spoil the home side's league winners party. Fortunately, this was just a minor lapse in concentration as Panmure would not score again for the remainder of the match. After 10minutes Blair were awarded a line out just outside Panmure's 22. From the line out the ball was passed to Murray Ormiston who dummied the pass and went on to score. Try converted by Finlay Ormiston.
Neither side could make much headway for the remainder of the half, both sides getting penalised quite a lot at ruck time. Unfortunately, this lead to Blair's captain on the day Finlay Ormiston being sent to the bin. Blair managed to weather the storm and kept Panmure out for the 10minutes. When Blairgowrie were restored to their full complement they managed to score just before half time.
Half time 14-5 to Blairgowrie.
The half time break did Blairgowrie the world of good and the trys came thick and fast. Slick hands put full back Stephen Souter in the corner for Blairgowrie's 3rd. Next up was Paul Douglas with his 2nd try of the afternoon driving off the back of a line out. The same happened 10minutes later this time Finlay Ormiston getting the score off the line out. The final try of the afternoon was from replacement hooker Connor key getting his 1st for the club. The score perhaps didn't reflect how well Panmure played and credit to them for a game well played. FT Blairgowrie RFC 40 Panmure RFC 5.
Blairgowrie were then presented with the Tennant’s Caledonia League Division 2 Midlands trophy from representatives from the SRU. The team, supporters and sponsors retired to the club to watch the six nations games and enjoy some well-deserved refreshments.
We at Blairgowrie rugby club would like to thank all the supporters and our sponsors for their support throughout this season without them our league victory would not have been possible.
