Oliver does the trick again!

Blofield Utd travelled to bottom side Reepham Town keen to finally secure their first league win of 2018.

With manager Damian Didwell away, I stepped in to help assistant Nick Budd. Mckail, Watson and Basey Fisher were missing from the loss the previous week to Harleston. Gibbs had recovered from his warm up injury last time out & he was joined by Darren Cox and Alex Niescierowicz in the starting line up.

Blofield Starting XI: Ian Stones, Abdul Ferej, Matt Banham, Darren Cox, Kris Hart, Jack Robinson, Tom Wright, Dan Stobbart, Alex Niescierowicz, Elliot Gibbs, Orren Oliver: Subs: Will Bennett, Isaac Mace, Reece May

It was the customary start for the beavers as they allowed the opposition to score within the opening five minutes of the game. The play was played in from the left and there was Ashley Dearing to take advantage of some poor defending to stab the ball home to put the visitors 1 up. I believe this has now happened four games in a row.

Fortunately, it was not long before the Beavers were back on level terms and a great cross swung in from Gibbs was met by Oliver to level the game up at 1-1.

Generally, Blofield controlled possession for the remainder of the half but could not turn that into any further goals, indeed it was Reepham who probably went closest when Stones had to be alert to tip the ball over the bar from a header.

It wasn’t long into the second half before Blofield finally took the lead and it was another fine individual effort from Oliver. There seemed no danger as Orren picked the ball up with his back to goal some 25 yards yet he somehow fashioned a shot out of nothing which flew past the keeper and into corner of the net.

A few minutes later and the game was made safe as Wright and Robinson combined for Jack to finish well from a tight angle.

Oliver completed his third hat-trick in four games a quarter of hour before the end when his short - range volley crashed in off the underside of the crossbar. He was subbed a few minutes later after passing up another chance to get his fourth! Reece May taking his place.

The game ended with Blofield on top as both May and Gibbs missed glorious chances to extend the Beaver’s lead.

F/T: Reepham Town 1 Blofield Utd 4

This was a much needed win against a side that looks a certainty for relegation. Its getting tight at the bottom with only 2 points covering 5 teams, though Blofield do have a number of games in hand and do not have to play the Top 3 within their run in.

However, manager Didwell will be hoping the weather relents enough for the game away at Wroxham Reserves to be played this weekend, otherwise the fixtures will start piling up at the end of the season.

The Reserves will be hoping the same, they are also away, at CEYMS.
