Bognor couldn’t respond to two first half goals from Carshalton Athletic at Nyewood Lane in another frustrating afternoon for the hosts.

The Rocks had 11 corners but failed to convert them against an eventual 10-man Robins side.

Bognor had an unchanged line up with only Bradley Lethbridge returning from injury to make an appearance on the bench.

Ashton Leigh's loose pass allowed Christie Pattisson on the run but his cross was headed out by Ben Clark-Eden.

Then Rocks sprung on the counter before a long ball found Dan Smith and Tyrrell Mitford sped on the overlap but Smith's forward ball ran out of play.

Omar Koroma gave the ball away square to Jimmy Muitt who sped on but his low ball into the area was cut out by goalkeeper Kleton Perntreoy on 5 minutes.

Bognor conceded though on 6 minutes. Ricky Korboa set up Pattisson and he confidently shot it beyond Searle and it bounced just once before going into the right side of the net.

Harvey Whyte played the ball forward and in a one-two move with Smith he set up Whyte who ran into the area before shooting low and forcing a save from Perntreoy on 10 minutes.

Whyte committed a foul in Carshalton's half and got a stern talking to by the referee. A stoppage in play followed this, allowing a drinks break for both sides as Pattisson required treatment from the physio on 15 minutes.

Searle had to hack the ball out as Tommy Leigh passed it back to him suddenly from a throw in. Then Smith was set through down the other end but his strike with his left foot flew over the bar but the linesman had his flag up for offside on 18 minutes.

Bognor went further behind on 21 minutes as a long ball forward saw Jeremiah Amoo chase it down and get there before Searle to hook the ball over the goalkeeper and it bounced into the net. The Rocks defenders on the line attempted to clear it but to no avail.

Whyte got the ball square to Doug Tuck and he passed it onto Mitford who passed it across goal to Smith who prodded it into the net but he was offside and the goal didn’t count on 24 minutes.

Pattisson received a square pass from Koroma and his shot was deflected only just wide of the right post. The corner was flashed wide off the head of Danny Dudley.

An injured-looking Pattisson was replaced by Tommy Bradford on 32 minutes for the visitors before Ricky Korboa forced a hacked clearance as the Robins were sharp in attack.

A Leigh was hard in the challenge on Koroma and was lucky not to go in the book. The ball in by Bradford whizzed across the box and bounced out of play.

The Robins missed a key opportunity on the stroke of half time as Ernold Haxhiu pounced on the loose ball by Smith before running on and squaring to an unmarked Korboa but he sliced it wide.

HT 0-2

Two changes followed at half time as Petar Durin came on for Searle and Bradley Lethbridge returned from injury to replace Mitford.

An early cross by Muitt was headed away by the defence. Durin was already involved denying a through ball and Perntreoy did the same down the other end getting to the ball ahead of Smith to boot clear.

Muitt did well to cut inside following his own corner but his shot was deflected into the arms of the goalkeeper on 53 minutes.

Lethbridge was bringing Bognor into the game more but another left sided cross was headed away from the forward as Bognor were desperate to get into the game.

James Crane's swirling cross was headed out for a corner. Muitt's ball in was headed out and then another cross was nodded just wide by T Leigh moments later.

Amoo's cross was looking for Koroma who went to ground looking for a foul but the referee ignored the claims from the bench for a penalty on 64 minutes.

Lethbridge did well to receive the ball off Tuck after turning his marker but his long range effort was deflected into the arms of the goalkeeper.

Muitt was fouled near the touchline by Paris Hamilton-Downes and he went into the book on 67 minutes.

T Leigh went into the book on 69 minutes as well as Bognor were showing their frustration trying to get back into this game but it looked a long shot with twenty minutes left.

Karboa was denied by Durin along the deck and then Amoo sped inside from the right before belting it over the crossbar moments later.

Whyte’s cross was handled by Daniel Poppoe with Smith in pursuit just outside the box. The referee spotted it and sent Pappoe off with a straight red card. T Leigh drove it low past the wall but wide of the left post on 75 minutes.

Muitt combined with Tuck before the striker curled it in with his left boot but he was denied by the assured catch of Perntreoy.

Kershaney Samuels went into the book on 80 minutes as he was penalised for time wasting taking his own corner kick.

Tuck threaded in Smith. He turned around and hit it instantly forcing a good save by the goalkeeper who pushed it away. Muitt's corner was played short to A Leigh but he was blocked with his cross and another ball in by Whyte was too much for Keaton Wood in the area on 85 minutes.

Then Muitt's cross was headed out to T Leigh who smashed it first time high and wide from over 25 yards.

Korboa smashed over when he neatly combined with Amoo on the right. The shot on 87 minutes was always rising over the bar.

Bognor won another corner when Muitt's cross was headed away ahead of Smith in the air. Muitt hooked another corner back inside but it was headed over the bar by Peter Adeniyi. Ben Clark-Eden headed another chance at goal but it was well gathered by the goalkeeper following a another cross.

The game ended after three minutes of stoppage time. Chances created but not taken was the story today against a strong side in Carshalton but a more positive performance compared to the Worthing game.

Robbie Blake and Jack Pearce will be hoping for an improvement in FA Cup football next at Nyewood Lane on Saturday 7th September as Rocks welcome Sittingbourne.
