Dear members I hope that this finds you and your loved ones well and that your sanity is surviving the lockdown!

Following my last message on 25/03, as promised I’d like to give you another quick financial update.
You may have seen a number of different sports grants and loans being made available through Sussex RFU, Sports England, The RFU and the local authority. We have been investigating every avenue to look into whether we are able to receive any funding and these applications are in progress. However, it’s worth noting that unlike a lot of other clubs at the moment, we are in a very fortunate position financially. We have no debts, no loans, no outstanding major invoices, the club is run by volunteers (so no wages to pay) and we have built up a contingency fund to hopefully see us through. If grants are available then we will of course look into these, but with regard loans and the various holidays (rent, utilities etc), we would only be looking at these as a last resort, as all we would be doing is kicking the problem down the road.
With regard the membership, I’m pleased and incredibly proud to say that we have had only one cancellation or query since my first message. I think this really does sum up the spirit of Bognor Rugby club and you should be very proud to be a part of such a tight-nit family. In fact I’ve had a number of people contact me and ask whether we need to set up a fighting fund and them volunteering cash to get it started! Again, incredibly generous and thankfully not required for the foreseeable with the continued membership support. This does mean that with the current membership payments coming in we can effectively stand-still.
You may also have heard recently of a number of break-ins at other rugby clubs. To support the existing monitored alarm system, we now have installed CCTV inside the club which covers the main bar area and also the cold room and has motion detectors and records any activity.
In summary though, with the majority of the main costs now covered and the membership staying as is, we can continue throughout the shut down in the knowledge that we should be just as strong financially at the end of it as we were at the beginning.
Again, I’ll ensure everyone is kept up to date with any changes and am looking forward to the post-lockdown social at the club!
Cheers
