Welcome to the start of another new season at Bognor RFC.
Normally we associate this time of year with the colour orange; the beginning of Autumn with leaves turning, mellow mist and daylight hours getting shorter.
Well this September things are different – the in colour is Silver!
What am I talking about – let me explain.
The rugby world cup starts on the 20th September and all 4 home nations will be competing for silverware (even though it is a gold cup!).
The club house in Hampshire Avenue was officially opened on the 18th September 1994 which makes this the Silver anniversary.
We are planning for our Christmas league luncheon which reminds me of Silver baubles on the Christmas Tree.
So what I hear you ask – John Don has finally had one too many Stellas!
Well all three facts are linked to the 1st League lunch on the 14th September.
Firstly, for all you members who have not been to the club since the end of last season it will be a good way of reconnecting and remembering where we are so that you can come along to all of England’s matches in the world cup and enjoy breakfast, a possible cheeky early morning beer and a fantastic atmosphere shared with like minded individuals.
Secondly, this lunch we will commemorate the opening of our new club house and so we would like as many players from the 1994/95 seasons to join us to commemorate this auspicious milestone.
Thirdly, after what can only be described as the biggest mass endurance event ever held in Sussex let alone Bognor – yes that right last years Christmas league lunch – we have made some changes. Gone is the leaky, windy marquee and welcome back the warmth and dry of the clubhouse.
However, this does pose a problem in as much as we were the masters of our own downfall by being so successful. Our problem now is how do we fit 230 people into a clubhouse that hold just 90.
Here’s the sneaky bit and where Christmas silver baubles meet September’s league lunch!
If you attend both September 14th lunch and October 19th League lunch, then you are guaranteed a place at the Christmas league luncheon on December 14th.
If you attend either the September or October luncheons, then you have the next call on left over tickets on a first come first serve basis
Only once all previous lunch attendees have taken their allocation will any tickets be made available for general release to other people.
I hope that you agree that this is a fair and equitable way of allocating a scarce resource and it should ensure full houses at both luncheons leading up to Christmas.
So hurry up and book your tickets for the 1st lunch. Either respond by return to this email or use the following:
