Manager Mark Wilson made one change to the starting eleven which beat Barrow Town last Saturday. Marc Finlay replaced Dave Hind who was unavailable due to family commitments. It was obvious from the kick off that this was going to be a tough match with Radcliffe still smarting from last weeks heavy defeat at Oadby Town. Radcliffe were chasing and challenging at every opportunity ant the Vic's were finding it hard to put together their game.
There were very few goal scoring opportunities in the 1st half and the closest Borrowash came to breaking the deadlock was when Tommy Leighton ran on to a Danny Martin through ball but he was put under pressure by the advancing Lance Walker and his lob landed on the roof of the net. Radcliffe were working hard but Steve Smith in the Borrowash goal had little to do thanks to the good defensive play of Ryan Granger, Danny Roberts, Andy Mottershead & Paul Gamble. Borrowash thought they had taken the lead after 35 mintes but Paolo Piliero had his goal ruled out for offside.
The 2nd half continued in the same pattern as the 1st with Radcliffe making it hard for Borrowash to settle into their stride and the midfield battle between Radcliffes Eddie Price and Ryan Smith and the Vic's Danny Martin and Sam Kellogg was turning into an intreging tussle. Borrowash made three quick substitutions looking to change the game, Jamie Pawley for Nathan Parker, Shane Newton for Marc Finlay and Lee Sutton for Paolo Piliero. The vital goal came after 78 minutes when a long throw from Danny Roberts was headed on by Andy Mottershead and the ball fell to Danny Martin 20 yards from goal and his excellant volley beat the full length dive of Lance Walker to give Borrowash the lead. Radcliffe had their best spell in the final ten minutes as they pushed forward looking for an equaliser but the Borrowash defence stood firm and they finished with the clean sheet which was asked of them by the manager before the game. This was another important win which keeps the Vic's on the heels of league leaders Heanor Town.
