BRFC U16s Vs Meden Vale

Our first game of 2022 was Round 1 of the NLD U16's cup Vs Meden Vale.
We haven't previously played against Meden Vale and so both teams were unknown to each other and the result was that a good, evenly matched game was played out in lovely sunny conditions at Boardsides.

With excellent availability, Boston fielded a good squad of U16's supported by a couple U15s lads.

Boston started well and applied much of the early pressure. One particular attack lead to an opportunity for Andrej Kravkuc to power over from close range. With the good conditions, Callum Fergusson made the conversion with ease and an early 7-0 lead was established.
The game then settled slightly from the early waves of Boston pressure to become a little more even with both sides attacking well but coming up against strong, uncompromising defenses. A Boston error lead to a penalty for Meden Vale in front of the posts which was scored to close the score to 7-3.

Despite some moments with players going down, injury and substitutions didn't inhibit the character of the game with both sides giving everything for the cause. Meden Vale had a strong scrum and applied pressure in the set piece but Boston held firm and made ground in the backs through pace and some challenging kicks in behnd.

Around halfway through the second half it seemed as though Boston were going to capitalise on the smallest of opportunities. Josh Pearson collected a Meden Vale kick well inside the Boston half and by some fantastic line running and passing between Josh, Callum, Reece and Ernie the team looked to have sliced open the defense to score a certain try under the posts. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the score remained 7-3 well into the dying minutes of the game.

With consistent forwards pressure MV were pounding the Boston line and were held up on a couple of occasions. But with some indiscipline and a Boston Yellow card MV were able to mount one last attack and scored in the last play of the game. With the conversion scored the final score was 7-10 to Meden Vale.

And excellent game of rugby played in a great spirit by both teams with many positives to reflect and build upon and we look forward to playing the MV guys again in the future, while also wishing them the best of luck in the next round.
