Great First Run Out

Boston Under 13's welcomed Sleaford RFC to the PRSA for our first game of 2021, indeed the first game either team had played for over 12 months. Sleaford have struggled to get a full team together in the last few years and it was fantastic to see them arrive with a full team and several replacements. We were also able to put out our full squad this week and the boys from both squads did not disappoint.
The first half saw Boston playing downwind and downhill, and following some hard running from some of our stronger runners Boston scored several early tries. Pleasing for us coaches Boston were also showing some of the handling skills we have been working so hard on during the last few months. All of our players were getting involved and the ball was being moved through the hands with great skill to put our pace men into space out wide. It was great to see everyone comfortable on the ball and making the right decisions.
That is not to say we had it all our own way, Sleaford had some big men in the middle of the field and no lack of pace outside. The boys had to put in some hard defensive work as well, and our communication and tackling held until the end of the first half when some strong running and good support play from Sleaford payed off and they score a well worked try.
The second half saw Sleaford using the wind to their advantage, kicking to pin us back. This gave us the opportunity to show our pace and broken field running as well as some great support play, with our outside backs scoring some good tries.
Our bigger ball carriers got involved as well, with interceptions and strong broken field running aplenty.
With both teams tiring towards the end of the second half, Sleaford ended the game with some sustained pressure in our half and despite several last gasp tackles, finished with a well taken try in the corner.
Credit must go to both teams for a great game played in the best of spirits. A great first run out for Boston with lots still to work on.
Mention must go to Alfie Phoenix and Taylor Hilton both making their debuts for Boston RFC, and with 9 different try scorers on the day a true team effort. We'll see you all on Wednesday for some more hard work at training, to prepare for a different challenge at Market Rasen next week.

Team: Jack Bowser, Elliot Brooks, Reubon Brunton, Charlie Dawson, Riley English, Cameron Harris, Michael Healey, Taylor Hilton, Henley Knowles, Harry Lovell, Joshua Moore, Alfie Phoenix, Dawid Szymiczek, Mario Wallace.
