Boston travelled north to play Market Rasen in the 4th fixture of the season between the two sides, with Rasen having previously won two and Boston one. Boston were short of players due to the unavailability of some players so three players from the U16 squad were called up to the Colts – Dylan Douglas, Reece Pickett and Jack Stewart.
The match was a hard-fought contest, but it was Boston had the better of the opening exchanges and were soon ahead after a penalty from Ethan O’Callaghan. Rasen were quick to reply and scored a try through Boston loanee Jack Stewart who touched down in the corner to make it 5 – 3 Rasen. Boston responded with tries by Ethan O’ Callaghan and Lewis Upton, and the score was 13 – 5 to Boston at half-time. The second half started with the Rasen forwards being very physical and direct and they were rewarded for their effort with a converted try to make the score 13 – 10. Boston rallied again, and two more tries from strong running prop Tautvydaas Ropeika, which were both converted by O’Callaghan, made the final score 27 – 10.
This was a great performance from Boston, especially with so many senior players unavailable, and was reflective of the improvements made by the Boston team over the season. It also resulted in honours between the two teams being shared for the season – with two wins apiece. Finally, it was great to see three younger players from the U16s make an appearance for the Colts and they all played their part in a great team performance.
