With the previous week's game called off, a home game local derby against Spalding was the first chance for the new '22/'23 Colts group to play a full game together.
BRFC started sharply and with a few minutes Taylor Benge made a killer intercept and sprint home for the first score which was converted by Ryan Firth.
An evenly matched first continued with some moments of real skill and a few mistakes offering opportunities to both teams. An unconverted Spalding try made the score 7-5 at half time.
Into the second half the Boston scrum continued to dominate, winning virtually all scrums on both own and opposition put-in. A very controlled, multi-phase passage of play only a few metres from the Spalding line resulted in a further Boston try scored by Ryan Firth. The lead was further extended when Sam Despicht carved the defense open with a quality, sniper's pick and go darting run. With the conversion again added by Ryan Firth.
Another unconverted Spalding try closed the score to 19-10 before a final build of attacking pressure lead to Boston being awarded a last minute penalty in front of the posts. Ryan Firth slotted it home to complete a good performance and take a 22-10 win against their local rivals.
Biggest positives of the night were the Fantastic support from the enthusiastic crowd and the Strong team spirit shown by the whole of the new Colts team.
