Press Statement – Boston Buccaneers RLFC
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Boston Buccaneers Rugby League Football Club will cease operating with immediate effect.
This has not been an easy decision. However, a combination of declining player numbers, increasing travel costs for away fixtures, and the recent retirement of both our manager and head coach has left us with no viable alternative.
Founded in 2014, the Buccaneers have proudly represented Boston for over a decade. In that time, we reached the Midlands Finals on three occasions, led the league in points scored, celebrated the league’s highest try scorer and played at the prestigious London 9s competition on two occasions pitting their skills against international opposition. Our commitment to developing talent saw 15 players selected for the Midlands Lionhearts and one for the South of England representative side — achievements we hold with immense pride.
Behind the scenes, countless hours have been devoted by players, coaches, committee members, and volunteers, all united by a passion for the sport and a determination to build something special in our community.
To our loyal supporters, generous sponsors, and everyone who stood with us over the years — thank you. Your belief, encouragement, and dedication made the Buccaneers more than just a team; you made us a family.
Though this chapter comes to a close, the memories, friendships, and legacy of the Boston Buccaneers will live on.
It’s been an epic journey.
