Sunday 1st October was the under 7's first foray into competitive tag matches. Two teams were entered into the season opener: the Moseley festival. This new experience brought the squad face to face with established teams across the area. The players took up the challenge with great enthusiasm and competitiveness. All players took the new rules in their stride and flourished showing strong forward running and skillful execution of pass when under pressure from the opposition. Various players showed the opposition a 'clean pair of heels' on their way to scoring some great individual tries. There were some fantastic efforts on last gasp tags to prevent tries, which proves the team's willingness never to give up. The competitive spirit of the team was borne out with players begging the coaches to let them get on the pitch again and examples of players 'standing to attention' next to the coach with a huge grin, made us all feel extremely proud as coaches!
Looking forward as a squad, the coaches will be working on defence techniques and going together as a team for tags as well as supporting the ball carrier at all times. With many wins under our belt from this first set of fixtures, it's a great base for the season ahead. At all points during the festival, the team played with ultra competitiveness, but sportingly so in all matches which belied the fact that the players are only 6 years old!
Thanks to all the parents, coaches and supporters who made this a great 'first' fixture for the under 7s!
Thanks to Moseley for organising such a great festival.
