Following victory in their inaugural league season (2011/12), promotion provided the 3rd XV with a huge challenge. With the departure of several long serving players, the team faced the daunting task of rebuilding their pack whilst attempting to prove that they could thrive in the higher league.
On the opening day of the season, the team secured their first league win in the Worcestershire & Herefordshire Merit League Division 2 against Woodrush 2nds. Since then, the team have gone on to record wins against teams such as Bridgnorth 3rds, Chaddesley Corbett 1sts and Warley 2nds and league wins against Stourbridge Lions 3rds and Evesham 3rds, along with an impressive 15-31 away league victory to Ledbury 2nds (current league leaders at time of writing.)
The squad this season has been made up of players from a wide variety of backgrounds, including players new to senior rugby (e.g. Alex Jordan, Josh Kambo) and indeed new to the sport (e.g. Thomasz Kulczynski, Sav Savva), those who haven’t played in several years (e.g. Lloyd Johnson), new student recruits (e.g. Tom Dawkes, Dan Barrett) and support from the hippos (e.g. Al Blacklaws, Andrew Wilson), alongside long standing 3rd team squad members (e.g. Phil Swinburn, Alex Iles.)
