In what was bournville 3rds first home game of the season, Old Yardlean 2nds would be our willing opponents. Bounville were made up of some experienced players as well as blooding no fewer than 6 Colts into the team. Looking to bounce back from a difficult game last week the message was clear, "give everything you have for the badge on your chest.". The game was very disjointed throughout with Bournville having to defend heavily in there own half for large parts of the game. But when our hands were on the ball we ran good lines and broke through the oppositions defenses, only a lack of players reaching the ruck seemed to be our downfall, for every good break there was and an anoyingly good turn over from Old Yardleans due to poor rucking and bad placement of the ball.
Chris Brookes lead the team valiently but at the end of the day an lack of dicipline and experience let the boys down. With teh score ending 23-5 in Old Yardleans favour.
Jason Hammond and the other senior members of the team will continue to keep moral high and play in the bournville way despite the bad start to the season, and look forward to travelling all the way to Ledbury for our next league game.
Special mention to Mike Charnley who i believe did a blinding job at Fly Half, as well as Phil Swinburn who returned today following long term illness. Also thank you to the two little bournville supporters who helpped warm up and motivate the team.
