A squad of 16 made the journey to take part in the first festival under the new RFU guidelines Rules of Play.
Two teams had been entered into the format of a round robin league, with 5 clubs taking part. Scores were not being recorded and there was no knockout stage.
However, despite there being no scores recorded, I am pleased to say that our record for the day was
P8 W7 L1 D0
A fantastic effort by all the players!
There are no individual team reports but all the players should be very proud of how they conducted themselves and played.
First game nerves for both teams showed but they settled down and played how they know best - as a team!
Throughout all the games it was evident that our strong defensive formation is key to winning. It has been likened to "Offa's Dyke", "the 38th parallel", "the Maginot line" and the "Hadrian's Wall" of defensive lines - hard to get around, over and break!
This was none so evident than when both of our teams pushed the opposition back to their own try line and won turnover ball!!
Tagging was superb all day and our attack play was varied, direct and at times sublime to watch - excellent passing, strong running and support. I'm sure I saw tears in the eyes of the coaches.
Medals were awarded at the end of the day and the boys should wear them with pride!
