A 100 ball friendly against our friendly nemesis Aston Rowant was the perfect way to start the week.
Manish and Krishiv kindly had the live stream rolling for the first time, capturing a strong Boyne Hill bowling performance, Aston Rowant losing superstar skipper Kaian Eaton early to a comfortable catch by school-mate Rohan, off the bowling of (other school-mate!) Om.
On a green pitch with some variable bounce, Ruben, Armaan and Rohan squeezed the scoring and picked up wickets regularly. Some sloppy fielding and a few chaotic missed run outs allowed our opponents to sneak to 91. This would later prove decisive.
In reply, the Hill started well, despite losing Liam early. Armaan batted well with Om (30*) before being removed for 15. Thereafter followed some extremely poor shot selection, multiple players giving their wickets away with a lack of awareness of the game situation, trying and failing to clear the boundary when needing significantly less than run a ball.
Finding themselves 61-7, it looked like the game had gone, but a partnership from Mesum and Oskar crept us towards the target, despite too many play and misses.
Skipper Rohan came in at 11 to try to guide the side to victory, and despite some good shots and urgent running, there was just too much work to do, Mesum run out trying to run two to secure the tie off the last ball.
A brilliant finish to a game that should have been won comfortably 20 balls earlier.
Losing by one run stings but we hope the boys can learn and come back stronger for the remaining games of the season.
