3. History 3

Even that was a far cry from the excellent facilities of which the club can now boast. It is a credit to the club that many of the founder members are still involved. Over the next 15 years Braintree Rugby Union Football Club established itself as a leading Essex club, providing players for first class clubs such as Saracens, London Welsh and Rosslyn Park, with several going on to collect County honours at both Colts and Senior levels. 2003 saw the club celebrating its Ruby Anniversary. Club members have played for Harlequins, England Under 21, Northampton, Essex and Eastern Counties at Development Squad, Clubs and Schools levels, with yet more boys being involved in Harlequins, Saracens, Northampton and London Welsh Academies, and Scottish Exiles. Our girls achieved County and Regional honours, and a large number of boys have been selected for the RFU Schools of Rugby. Our Under 9s to Under 12s played in the curtain raiser games before the Barbarians game against World-Champions South Africa, and 2 of our boys were South African mascots. From humble beginnings the club has grown in stature and now runs the following sides:
1st XV
2nd XV Development Squad
3rd XV Socials
Vets
Youth and Mini Section with Bumbles and Under 7 to Under 16
Academy for 17/18 year olds
Girls Warriors teams at U13s, U15s, U18s
Ladies Vixens Team
The present Senior Club Chairman has spent over 30 years involved with the Youth and Mini Section, and is determined to continue to forge the necessary bond between the Senior Club and the Junior Club which is essential in providing players and a strong future for the club. The Academy has provided Senior Youth players with a step-up to the Senior game, and an introduction to 1st XV and 2nd XV rugby.

We are a friendly club, promoting the enjoyment of the game, and would love to welcome you to our club as a player or visitor.
