It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Johan Burger, a great friend of Braintree Rugby Club.

Johan, 62, passed away last weekend after battling the Covid-19 virus in hospital.
Johan, originally from South Africa, joined the club when his children were small, with son Vyan playing for Braintree Youth. As a dentist, one of the first things Johan did for the club was taking impressions and providing gum shields for the juniors, which he did for many years until Vyan left rugby.
This didn't stop Johan being involved, and he has been seen every year with his best friend Albie Holt, their wives, family and friends, providing the wonderful South African bbq at the annual Matthew New Memorial Sevens in August each year, run by his Godson Ruan Holt. Johan was a gentle, kind man who always had a smile on his face.
Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife Esmeree, sons Berdu and Vyan, and daughter Jeanri, along with his family and friends. Heaven has gained another true gentleman.
