Braintree maintain their 100 per cent start to the season

BRAINTREE...82 BILLERICAY...0 (Canterbury Jack Essex One)

BRAINTREE maintained their 100 per cent start to the season by inflicting a devastating 14-try defeat on their injury hit Essex rivals.
The win moves Tree back into second position in Essex One behind East London but with a game in hand and a better points difference than the leaders.
Billericay came to Robbs Wood with a big pack and a reputation for playing a forward orientated game.
But despite their size they never succeeded in gaining the upper hand and lost several players to injury in the face of Tree’s relentless physicality on a regular basis.
The tone for the game was sent straight from the kick-off when Billericay fumbled possession and were forced to kick for touch.
Tree got clean ball at the line-out and set up a catch and drive move which saw the ball fed to inside centre Joss Adams who crashed over to score.
Kingsley Joslin’s conversion made it 7-0 to the hosts and from then onwards it was pretty much one-way traffic.
On nine minutes winger Joe Young ran in to score after a free-kick on Billericay’s five-metre line and a ball down the line. 12-0.
Six minutes later Adams added his second try after Tree won good possession from a rolling maul after a line-out with Joslin kicking the conversion. 19-0.
On 20 mins big second row Dan Johnston crashed through after another successful line-out, Joslin making it three from four with the boot to extend his side’s lead to 26-0.
A quick tap penalty on the visitors five-metre line three minutes later saw winger James Moore run in to score, Joslin’s conversion making it 33-0.
And just before half-time a massive hit in the midfield by Joslin caused the ball to be spilled and gathered by Tree.
A through the hands move put in Young for his second try to give Tree a 38-0 interval lead although Joslin unfortunately had to leave the field with suspected concussion.
there was no respite after the break with a fired-up Johnston receiving tap penalty ball on the visitors’ 22 only two minutes in to score and stretch the lead to 43-0.
Two minutes later Adams completed his hat-trick after a great break by full back James Abbott and fast running support by four other players. 48-0.
On 46 minutes Jack Lee ran all the way in from his own 22, crashing through numerous defenders on the way. Conversion by Darren Page. 55-0.
Four minutes later, with the scrums now uncontested after a second front row injury for Billericay, clean posession saw Abbott join the line to score. 60-0.
In the last 12 minutes Tree added four more tries, Young completing his hat-trick with Lee and Abbott both scoring again and captain Tom Carslake rounding things off. Page also grabbed a second conversion.

BRUFC Chairman of Selectors Dave Gilder said: “Despite being outgunned Billericay were very game and played right to the end.
“We know there will be tougher challenges to come but numbers in training have been excellent with great pressure for places.
“The selection committee will have some tough decisions to make in the coming weeks with the best depth to the squad that we have had for a couple of seasons.”
Manager Brian Joslin added: “I thought we'd win but not that convincingly. To be fair to Billericay I think they might have been missing a few key players.
“But credit to the players they put Billericay to the sword from start to finish, never letting them settle.
“This time last year the senior playing side of the club was in crisis and we were struggling to field one side of merit table level.
“Even at the start of this season we could only manage to put one senior side out, but with a lot work from managers, coaches and players, the 1st and 2nd teams are now flourishing.
“We'd had a lot of close games in Essex 1 before yesterday and I'm sure there are a lot tougher ones to follow as well. We are definitely transitioning to a better place.”
Tree return to Essex One action on Saturday 5th December when they travel to the south of the county to face Stanford-le-Hope.

BRUFC: Abbott, J Young, Adams, Joslin, J Moore, Willis, Page, Perry, Jones (Benfield), Aldridge (Halford), Johnston, Fitzearle (C Stephens), Lee, Carslake, N Spearman.

Braintree IIs lost narrowly away to Old Brentwood’s 22-19. John Smilie and Sam O'Sullivan x 2 scored the trys whilst Liam Evans kicked 2 conversations in a man of the match display at 7
