ILFORD WANDERERS…7 BRAINTREE…43 (London 3 Essex)
BRAINTREE returned to winning ways with a convincing seven-try demolition of Ilford Wanderers that ensured they stay in touch with the London 3 Essex leaders.
The home side started on the front foot and put Tree under pressure for the first 10 minutes without managing to convert their possession into points.
The black and ambers took full advantage of their hosts’ profligacy and soon began to overpower the east Londoners.
Tree’s forwards soon began the task of dismantling their opposing forwards and laid the ground for their backs to run riot.
Man of the match Glen Whyatt had a storming game at full-back as he ran in four tries to cap a magnificent individual performance.
Further tries from Elliott Swallow (2) and Cameron Kerr inflicted further damage, with Swallow kicking four successful conversions.
BRUFC Head Coach Jamie Clarke said: “It was a good performance against a combative Ilford side who kept going to the very end.
“Historically Ilford has always been a difficult place for us to come, so we were delighted to get the win and the bonus point.
“I feel the side is really growing into a cohesive unit and this was a great response to a close loss last time out.
“I was particularly pleased that we were able to release our backs today - I think that we will see them really show their potential in the upcoming games.”
Tree are back in London 3 Essex action this weekend when they entertain East London at Robbs Wood on Saturday.
