On a frosty morning at home the U9’s came up against a strong and determined Wenden’s Ambo team.
The match started with a flurry of quick passes and strong running from Braintree progressing towards WA’s line. WA defence was strong forcing a small handling error and the turnover.
WA put together a series of good moves to head towards the Braintree line. Braintree held their nerve and ground to reach the 7 turnover. It was clear it was to be a game of attrition.
The first half continued in this vein with small handling errors turning the game over, half-time score 0-1
The second half started with a BANG with Braintree scoring quickly to level the scores.
The game continued to be a fairly defensive affair with superb tackling techniques shown by all players. Both Braintree and WA displayed a number of nice attacking moves that the defences dealt with well.
With two minutes to go and both teams tiring, WA took a quick free pass and broke through a small gap to score in the far corner.
The game was well played by Braintree for the first one back from the Xmas break. They showed good awareness and strength to hold WA to such a close game.
Much to work on
