In a game of 4 15 minute quarters, Braintree were totally unstoppable. With every quarter played in the opposition's half, it was only a matter of time before the tries clocked up. Thurrock were simply unable to breakthrough and get a piece of the action. In the closing minutes of the final quarter, their one and only breakaway was stopped dead in it's track by JAck Raine, who had also pull the ball over the line twice.
George Clarke was top scorer making 4 of the 16 tries scored, followed by 3 from Peter Jessa, 2 from Sam Ball and Jack Raine and singles from Sam Smith (eventually!), Max Barnes-Grime, Samuel Everitt, Nate Bossert and Arthur McCann. Of course, none of this is possible without the pressure being brought to bare by our tough squad. Heaving, mauling, rucking and tackling with a few mishaps here and there, they rallied and the familiar communication and passing down the line set them straight allowing them, to maintain possession and score, score, score!
Fabulous tackles from Adam French, really low and effective and Alfie Gaunt-Davis, constantly there in the middle of it all, together with powerful pushing up from Harry Ridgwell to get the ball carrier over the line and great support getting the ball down the line from Thomas Anderson-Doyle, Harvey Dawson and Sam Turner meant a result that shattered the opposition.
A great first outing for the lads and roll on next week's home fixture against Brentwood. Well done everyone!
