against a stronger than last time Woodford

Captain's Report
Today we played Woodford for the second time this seasons with a lot of different big players that they used effectively. We played attacking rugby out wide were we had the advantage in the backs. We scored some good team tries to get a good lead. But we let in a try down to poor tackling a miss concentration. We then carried on scoring some good tries and closed out the match.

Match Report
Woodford travelled to Braintree, the teams having met earlier in the season, however the Woodford side that turned up on Sunday were very different from our last encounter, much bigger and looking keen to turn the table on the last match.

Braintree missing a few boys through injury and Eng v Italy @ Twickenham, still manage to field 21.

From the Ko it was clear the game was going to be a closer contest, with both teams contesting the set piece and the break down and with this it was 8 minutes before a clearance kick from Woodford found Harry Mac who, set off on a weaving run through the defence to score under the posts. Converted.

Some time past as Woodford started to keep some longer spells of possession and deny Braintree the ball and were camped in the Braintree half, however Braintree defence held strong and kept Woodford out. Braintree managed to turn the ball over in the midfield and move the ball and Harry taking a great line found space to score under the posts.Converted

Woodford carried on fighting back with some good tight rugby, but for each time they managed to move the ball Braintree pressed their line not giving them room to exploit the spaces. Finally with some good interplay they broke through and scored. Not converted.
Braintree bounced back and again with from a solid scrum Braintree moved the ball for Cooper to take another good line and cut through the Woodford defence to score just before half time. Converted.

Right from the restart, Woodford came back at Braintree with their big forwards battling in the mid field with Braintree, a stalemate between the two team began, each side unable to keep possession long enough and both defences holding strong.
Finally after nearly 12 minutes Archie received the ball from inside the Braintree half saw a gap and took it and then out pacing the full back to score out wide. Unconverted.

Woodford now the heavier pack started to dominate the scrums and continued to attack the Braintree half, but Braintree held firm with some excellent covering tackles from to name just two James Goodchild and Billy.

Finally from a forwards turnover the ball was moved with swift hands to Harry coming into the line to run into the corner and score. Unconverted. Woodford kept Braintree working hard to the final whistle.

The game again proved that teams are very different from one time to the next and we always need to be ready for what ever team turns up in front of us.

What was pleasing, is that all the boys played at least half a game in more than one positions, with over 40% of the team changing during the game, well done boys keep it up.
