Johnny be good!
Bramley hosted Thorne looking to get back to winning ways after last week’s defeat. Things couldn’t have started much worse with injury forcing off the tackling machine that is Adam Oliver after only 2 minutes. Worse was to follow when after only 10 minutes No.8 Jay Pickard was harshly sent off after an altercation with one of the Thorne pack. Despite the numerical disadvantage the home side continued to dominate possession and territory. They did however miss 3 or 4 gilt edge chances to score a try and only had a Sam Coates penalty to show for their efforts. Then on their first visit to the Bramley 22 Thorne scored a well worked try which was converted to give the visitors a 7-3 half time lead.
Bramley forwards continued to make light of being a man down and eventually Coates reduced the gap with another successful penalty. Bramley were on top now and after numerous penalty infringements Thorne had a player sin binned. Then Bramley scored what turned out to be the match winning try. Good ball by the forwards was moved well across the back line and winger John Filin went over in the corner for a deserved try. A late period of Throne pressure was repelled by the home defence with even prop Ashley Stead making a tackle (allegedly.)
Although not the prettiest, credit must go to the lads for the effort and determination shown after playing all but 10 minutes a man down.
