The game started as all good Saturday games do with the ref not turning up. So, our man Jealo had to step in at the last minute and ref the game (last time he was ref he sent off Alex Robinson) Brent started the game well, having much of the early possession. The first clear cut chance fell to Reaago, fresh from his first goal playing for the 1s. A great through ball from Gary, Reaago beat the defender to the ball down the channel. He then tried to cut in and get a shot off, but the defender got back and made the block.
Wokingians then had a chance from a long ball that their number 9 outpaced Berto however Carlos was quick off his line and smothered the chance with a good save. Brent then pushed with Gary picking the ball up 35 yards out. He drove at the Wokingians defense and hit a low shot from 20yrd out which found the bottom corner.
Wokingians then started to get a foothold in the game and equalised from a very controversial goal as JP, Berto and Big Al all thought it was offside by 5 yards (Jealo has a shocker). Unfortunately, the game turned on the drinks break, and Brent found themselves 2-1 down within minutes of leading the game as they took advantage of a mistake by both JP and Carlos who let their midfield get in between them from Carlos dropping a shot and JP not clearing it that made it 2-1.Brent then had the best chance of the half with Gary playing a great ball wide to Fenton who then crossed it in for Jamie arriving late to hit it on the half volley just wide.
Gary then picked the ball up 20yrds out and hit a timid shot at the GK who fought it but then fumbled it into the net. 2-2 HT
At half time the gaffer Stevo then gave his team talk praising the work rate and commitment. Gary then said his part which was all blood and thunder (typical Gary) the actual ref then turned up so Jealo got saved another shocker of a half as ref. To say the ref was out of shape was an understatement you couldn’t call it a beer belly more like a whole brewery. Stevo brought on the big man, Brent’s version of Peter Crouch. We call him the white Heskey 6ft 8inch Aaron.
Second half kicked off again and was pretty even. The first real chance came from a corner for Wokingians. They swung a ball in and then had a bit of a scramble in the box which the eventually got a half shot off and wide.
Carlos was the called into action again making a great save from a shot just inside the box. Adel came on, on the left wing and instantly had the Wokes defenders panicking with his directness and pace. On 2 occasions he picked the ball up from Carlos’ long kick, beat the Wokingians defenders for pace but just couldn’t pick a pass or get a shot off. The game remained pretty even with only a few more half chances. Adam came on and had a shot blocked. Aaron was causing the Wokingians defenders’ nightmares with his all arms and leg style, being a pest and just making them uncomfortable. Carlos then had to pull off another great 1on1 save.
The game then all turned on 2 key moments, Stevo making the call to go for the game and playing 2 CF’s. The second key moment happened 15mins from the end, Carlos comes out to claim a Wokingians corner he drops it. They get a shot away which Berto handles with both hands over the top. Penalty given, Wokingians then slot the penalty away to make it 3-2. Brent then put the pressure on with Wokingians panicking unable to get out their half. Adel then had the big chance out paces the whole wokingians defence keeper comes out Adel moves it to the side then shots and it just goes over the bar by a hair. Jp then had to come off with 5mins to go, Fenton comes back on, Wokingians break down the right out pacing Richie at RB with Fenton out sprinted into the left the winger plays the ball across the box perfectly to the far post for the RW to tap it in. Game over… 4-2. No real action after that.
A disappointing start for Stevo and his team however a lot of positives from the game as Brent were in the game till the last 15mins. With a brand-new side with 3 very young lads playing. A lot of positives to take into the next game.
