U16's suffer heavy defeat on the road...

Brentwood took a mixed A/B team to Battersea Ironsides on Sunday, anticipating a tough match, against a quality side looking to avenge a close fought semi-final defeat to Brentwood in this seasons Golden Boot. We were not disappointed!

As the 88-0 score line suggests Ironsides A team ran riot and were able to score tries at will. Aside from a 10 minute spell in the first half, with the score already at 21-0, Brentwood never looked like troubling their opponents. This was in the most part due to a lack of togetherness, spirit and the inability to do the basics right.

The absence of players due to County matches and/or other commitments cannot be used as an excuse, as this squad has shown many times over the last 2-3 seasons that it can be competitive, no matter what team is selected and irrespective of the opponents. Today was very much the exception.

Whilst the score line and manner of defeat were most galling, a number of boys acquitted themselves well, continuing to tackle and trying to play rugby, whilst refusing the referees offer to curtail the match early.

The key now is for all the boys to regroup, consider their individual and collective performances on Sunday and look to put things right in the tough run of matches coming up.

Our thanks to our hosts Battersea, congratulations to them on the overall quality and strength of their play throughout the squad.
