Brentwood RFC U16s completed the League and Cup double for the third successive season following a resounding 71-5 victory against Mavericks in the Essex Cup Final, held at Rochford. The overnight rain had made the surface perfect for the end of season game, and straight from the kick off Brentwood pressurised Mavericks in to mistakes, which led to Brentwood scoring 3 tries within the first ten minutes. Mavericks replied soon after with a well worked try from a driving line out, but Brentwood scored 3 more tries before half time to effectively kill-off any lingering hopes Mavericks had. Brentwood led 40-5 at the break.
The second half started with the weather taking a turn for the worse, with drizzly rain making the ball difficult to control and dropped balls the norm, but Brentwood continued where they left off, with two early tries extending their lead. Missed opportunities from both sides dominated the next twenty minutes, until Brentwood further stretched their lead with 3 further tries, all began deep in their own half, in the final ten minutes.
