Not even Storm Angus and severe overnight weather deterred the U16's from traveling to Southend, and the challenge of playing this rescheduled Cup Fixture.
In the first 10 mins, with Brentwood running up the slope into strong crosswinds and light but driving rain, we looked fairly evenly matched. Unfortunately, an early score from Southend turned the match in their favour, and allowed them to take a commanding lead. Despite us pinning them back in their own 22 for a while, we were just unable to get across the line. Brentwood finally scored and converted in the last play of the first half - score 31-7.
In the second, and now running down the slope, much improved play from Brentwood with more commitment, and self belief and we clawed the full time score back to 43-29 after sustained pressure.
We may not have got the physical victory, but have hopefully shown how capable we are of playing good Rugby, snd given Southend something to think about for our future meetings
