Brentwood travelled to Ipswich on Saturday with a rearranged front row due to the late withdrawal of Lewis Pratley. Jed Roman was drafted into the front row. However the late change proved to be a master stroke by the Brentwood coaching team as they dominated their opposite numbers.
On a blustery and cold afternoon Brentwood started confidently with the half backs of Harris and Simpson keeping the Ipswich team pinned back into their half. Henry Bird took advantage by putting Brentwood 0-3 up. The pressure was kept on Ipswich with some excellent running from Binet and Thomas. Excellent support work saw Ed Greenfield round off a brilliant passage of play to score as he outstripped the Ipswich defence providing Henry Bird with an easy conversion to put Brentwood into a comfortable 0-10 lead.
Brentwood's clinical precision and support play was too much for Ipswich and again some excellent phases of play saw Henry Bird set free to score Brentwood’s second try which he converted to give Brentwood a 0-17 lead. Ipswich responded with some direct running and a defensive lapse saw Ipswich reduce the score to 7-17 just before half time.
Brentwood dominated huge passages of play in the second half. Excellent work by the untiring forwards saw good ball for the backs to run at Ipswich again and again. The support play was outstanding with all players looking to off load and create further try scoring opportunities. Brentwood's third try was scored by Tom Simpson and converted by Bird to increase the lead to 7-24. The bonus try was scored by Stanier who outstripped the Ipswich defence with blistering pace to give Brentwood a 7-29 lead.
The introduction of replacements Jon Wylie, James Cowen and George Bassinger allowed Director of Rugby Steve Killington the opportunity to give some of the squad a rest.
The final play of the game saw a try from the spirited Ipswich side. To give the final score of 12-29 to Brentwood. The defeat will see Ipswich relegated.
